The Mission
The North Group is an association of Fire Departments and Fire Protection Districts serving Northern El Paso
County and Southern Douglas County Colorado.
Our goal is to provide a cooperative effort between these organizations to protect areas deemed within the "Red Zone". In the year 2000, the Pikes Peak Wildfire Prevention Partners studied El Paso, Teller, and Douglas Counties to determine the potential danger and risks of a wildfire. These counties were analyzed based on where they fell on 3 different scales:
RISK: What is the likelihood of human activities starting a wildland fire in this area?
HAZARDS: Are the Fuels and Topography of this area likely to support a large wildland fire? VALUES: Will a wildfire destroy natural or developed areas to an unacceptable degree? The analysis rated areas relative to each other on a High, Medium, or Low scale. The Red Zone is defined as those portions of the study areas that were rated as High Risk, High Hazard, and High Value. Over half of the territory in the North Group falls within the Colorado "Red Zone." This means that residents living within the Red Zone need to be concerned with wildland fire because it's just a matter of time before fire impacts our forests. The North Group Members
